Why Running

"I’m Karen Breslin, and I’m running for the U.S. Senate because Colorado—and our country—desperately need change. The status quo has failed us, leaving working families struggling, our rights under attack, and too many politicians more focused on partisan games than real solutions."

Policy Summary

  • Protecting Our Rights: A constitutional crisis demands unwavering resistance to efforts that undermine fundamental freedoms, and the moment calls for leaders willing to confront authoritarian threats directly rather than appease them. The public must understand the severity of this danger, and Congress must meet it with far greater urgency.

  • Fighting Corporate Power: Extreme wealth concentration has eroded democratic governance, and confronting monopoly power is essential to restoring balance. Rejecting corporate PAC money, self‑imposing a term limit, and resisting corporate efforts to dismantle consumer protections are central to reining in corporate influence.

  • Economic Fairness & Healthcare: Decades of rising inequality require structural reforms such as Medicare for All, a financial transaction tax, a wealth tax, stronger antitrust enforcement, a $15 minimum wage, and a permanent Child Tax Credit expansion. These measures aim to rebalance the economy toward working families rather than the billionaire class.

  • Climate Change & Environment: Protecting public health and the planet requires legislation to reduce pollution, curb microplastics and toxic chemicals, incentivize carbon reduction, and safeguard natural landscapes that serve as carbon sinks. A broader political movement is needed to defend biodiversity and environmental integrity.

  • Immigration: A humane and lawful immigration system must provide a prompt path to citizenship, end unnecessary detentions, and ensure due process and constitutional protections for all. DACA recipients and individuals with temporary protected status should receive an accelerated route to citizenship.

  • Racial Justice: Advancing racial equity requires restoring DEI and affirmative action, reorienting policing toward community safety, addressing maternal mortality disparities, and reinvigorating environmental justice programs. Supporting reparations and honoring treaty obligations to Native nations are essential steps toward closing longstanding gaps in wealth, health, and opportunity.

  • Reproductive Rights: Protecting reproductive freedom means opposing fetal personhood laws, repealing the Hyde Amendment, and enacting the Women’s Health Protection Act to safeguard access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare nationwide.
