Happy New Year! As we head into the New Year, IndivisibleNOCO has more hope for our country’s future than we have in over a year. Not everything is o.k. People are still suffering the impact of the president and congress’s cruel actions - and sadly will continue to do so. At the same time, we are starting to see the wheels of the MAGA bus come off. It is incumbent on us - WE THE PEOPLE - to make sure they completely fall off and cannot be put back on.
We cannot be complacent this year. If anything, love of our country and constitution requires us to work harder than ever. To help you focus your energy, IndivisibleNOCO has identified eleven ways you can engage in 2026 to stop the cruelty and return the United States of America to the people (rather than the oligarchs currently ruling and destroying our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness)
1. Help Democrats and Independents take back control of Congress.
Defeating Republicans in the November 2026 elections are critical. For the first half of the year, IndivisibleNOCO will focus on ensuring we have great candidates in all the races impacting Northern Colorado. Here are some ways you can help out:
Learn about the candidates from IndivisibleNOCO and other sources
Attend candidate forums; spread information to friends and family members
Join an IndivisibleNOCO team to research candidates or organize candidate forums
Volunteer for or contribute money to a candidate’s campaign
2. Demand that our Members of Congress fight for us.
Put the numbers for Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper and your representative (e.g., Neguse or Beobert) into your contacts so you can quickly call them. Watch for IndivisibleNOCO calls to action to contact members of congress to demand that they take action to block Trump nominations, require quorum calls, object to unanimous consent, and keep the public aware of the terrible things Trump and his regime are doing. They should be loud and vocal, prepared to cause good trouble, and to vote against all Republican initiatives.
3. Demonstrate against Trump’s tyranny.
The two No Kings protests in 2025 were important in revealing the depth and breadth of the resistance across America. More than 7 million of us marched in the second No Kings protest on October 18, including over 17,000 in Northern Colorado at protests in Fort Collins, Loveland, Berthoud, Windsor and Timnath. They reassured millions of Americans that they are not alone and are not crazy - encouraging millions more to join the resistance - and putting us within reach of the 3.5% of a population researchers have found to be a precursor for overthrowing a tyrant. The protests rattled Trump who resorted to childish posts and taunts in their aftermath.
This year, help make our protests even larger and their effects even greater. Commit to attending weekly corner demonstrations (see Indivisiblenoco.com for information) as well as any larger demonstrations planned for your community in concert with national events. Bring a friend or family member who has not previously participated - every additional participant grows the movement and the resistance!
4. Organize or participate in boycotts of companies that are enabling the Trump regime and/or treating their workers like sh*t.
Never underestimate the effectiveness of consumer boycotts. Corporations invest heavily in their brand names and the goodwill associated with them. Loud, boisterous, attention-getting boycotts can harm brand names and reduce the prices of corporations’ shares of stock. Start with Elon Musk’s X, Tesla, and Starlink internet service. Instead of shopping at Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks (or any company that advertises on X or Fox News), look for local alternatives or small online businesses that ship via USPS.
5. To the extent you are able, fund groups that are litigating against Trump.
In 2025, the district courts and courts of appeals held the line against many Trump initiatives. In 2026, they’re likely to be even more important. (You can track the federal cases against the Trump regime here.)
The best groups spearheading federal litigation deserve your support. They include:
6. Spread the truth.
Get news through reliable sources, and spread it. If you hear anyone repeating lies and Trump propaganda, including local media, contradict them with the truth. Here are some reliable sources:
7. Protect vulnerable immigrant communities.
As Trump’s ICE accelerates its brutal roundups, detentions, and deportations, many hardworking and longstanding members of our communities and their families are endangered and understandably frightened. Join IndivisibleNOCO’s Signs of Solidarity project to help create a safer community for immigrants.
8. Protect LGBTQ+ members of your community.
Trump continues to make life far more difficult for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other people through executive orders, changes in laws, alterations in civil rights laws, changes in how such laws are enforced, and encouragement of bigotry and hate.
Work with others in being vigilant against prejudice and bigotry, wherever it might break out. When you see or hear it, call it out. Join with others to stop it.
9. Become involved in local activism
Local and state governments retain significant power. Become more involved with IndivisibleNOCO or join groups that are moving your city or Colorado forward on climate change, human rights, voting rights, and counteracting the power of large corporations, in contrast to regressive moves at the federal level.
10. Prepare to vote like your country depends on it
Check your voter registration to verify you are registered to vote and your address is correct. If you move, be sure to update your address. Make sure all your friends, family members and casual acquaintances are registered to vote at their current addresses. When it is time to vote - in the primaries and the general election, make sure you are informed as to the candidates and the ballot issues - and make sure that everyone around you is as well.
11. Take care of yourself and your loved ones
Make sure you take time for love, joy and self-care. It is a privilege to be able to engage in activism. You will be the most effective if you are mentally and physically healthy. We at IndivisibleNOCO have found solace into channeling our energy into activism rather than maintaining constant anger and rage. We maintain our mental and physical health by prioritizing family, friends and hobbies, which in turn allows us the energy to keep moving forward year after year. We hope you will do the same.
