Why Running

To save our country, we must take on this rigged legal system and make the law work for ordinary people by enforcing it with courage and compassion. That will mean using the law not just to take on Donald Trump, but to take on the corruption that serves his project—it will mean taking on the billionaires bribing him and pillaging our democracy for their own profit. It will mean prosecuting ICE agents and others participating in his cruelty.

And it will mean making the law a force of good in people's lives–fighting for their safety and prosperity. It will mean fighting for a world where everyone who lives in Colorado can afford to thrive here. The attorney general’s office can do that.

I’ve done that my whole career. And as your Attorney General, I’ll be bold, scrappy, and utterly fearless in using the office to make the law work for you. I’ll root out corruption, stand up to the oligarchs, and make Goliaths pay when they screw over Colorado.

Approach to Federal Issues

Suing  Donald Trump is necessary–but it isn’t enough. Right now, his  corruption and cruelty is supported by forces that think that they put  themselves on the right side of the law by doing his bidding. The brutal  immigration enforcement agenda has nothing to do with public safety and  makes all Coloradans more vulnerable. The attorney general can fight  back. And we must.

David  will be on the frontlines of the fight against Donald Trump and  everyone who profits from his corruption and cruelty, using Colorado law  to hold them accountable, including:

  • Prosecuting ICE agents under Colorado law if they trample people’s rights, bully them, or kidnap them.

  • Prosecuting the billionaires and corporations that are bribing the administration.

  • Picking  up the cases the Trump Administration dropped against its corporate  donors, including cases against the biggest banks and tech companies in  the country

  • Locking the mergers that Trump is letting through to do the bidding of his oligarch friends.

  • Boldly  enforcing Colorado’s civil rights protections, including shield laws  that protect  access to reproductive care and Colorado law that protects  trans people.

Policy Summary

Standing up to Trump's Corruption and Cruelty

Fighting for Workers

David will be a transformational attorney general in the fight for working people by using Colorado law to hold accountable the corporations that exploit working people by:

  • Going after corporations that “misclassify” workers by profiting off them and controlling them while denying them their lawful wages, the right to a union, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance and more.

  • Using state law in bold and creative ways to protect workers’ safety, right to a union, and freedom from discrimination at a moment when the Trump Administration has gutted the federal laws and agencies designed to protect those rights. We can triple private sector union density in Colorado by 2030.

  • Breaking up monopolies and going after fine-print contracts that keep workers trapped in jobs that don’t pay them what they deserve.

  • Fighting to improve Colorado law, including by passing the Worker Protection Act.

  • Prosecuting employers that exploit immigrant workers by retaliating against them or threatening them with ICE if they complain.

  • Holding accountable the corporations that are using AI and algorithms to spy on workers and drive down their wages.

Holding Big Tech Accountable

David will fight to hold Big Tech accountable, including:

  • Protecting our kids from the social media and chatbots that are manipulating them.

  • Going after the corporations that spy on us and use AI tools to jack up prices, drive down wages, or deny us healthcare.

  • Fighting against the growth of data centers that are stealing our water and jacking up utility costs.

  • Fighting against mass surveillance, including Flock cameras and other license plate reader technologies.

Protecting Colorado's Environment

We live in one of the most beautiful places on earth. But corporate and special interests are polluting our environment and blocking our access to public lands. David will fight for our environment and everyone’s right to access it, including by:

  • Creating an environmental enforcement unit that will make polluters pay independent of the Governor’s role in policing corporate polluters. Companies like Suncor should no longer be able to pollute our environment and get just a slap on the wrist.

  • Fighting to ban fracking and data centers and to protect clean air and water for everyone, especially for the communities too often denied it.

  • Standing up to special interests and billionaires blocking access to rivers and waterways for rafters and anglers.

Affordability

David will use the law boldly to hold the corporations who steal from us accountable and make life affordable, including by:

  • Fighting to ban private equity ownership of single family homes, healthcare companies, and mobile home parks.

  • Blowing up the monopolies that drive up the costs of everything from healthcare and housing to lift tickets, diapers, and online streaming.

  • Attacking the fine print that keeps people  trapped in everything from jobs to cell phone and gym contracts, and hammers them with hidden junk fees.

  • Banning algorithms and AI that inflates our prices and allows corporations to collude over the most basic things, including our rent.

  • Standing up to the corporate landlords and eviction mills that jack up the price of rent, unlawfully evict families from their homes, and fail to provide safe and healthy housing that the law guarantees.

Healthcare

Our current system puts profits over people, making life harder for everyday Coloradans. We need Medicare for All, but on our path there, state AG’s can fight against the healthcare corporations exploiting us for their own profit.

David will take on big health care corporations, fix the broken system, and ensure that everyone who lives in this state can afford to thrive, including:

  • Prohibiting private equity ownership of healthcare.

  • Blocking the healthcare mergers that drive up costs for working families.

  • Going after insurers that systematically deny claims.

  • Fighting against abusive medical debt and medical debt collection, including by ensuring that hospitals provide access to free and reduced cost care as the law requires.

  • Enforcing civil rights laws and shield laws to protect reproductive freedom and access to care, specifically ensuring those seeking reproductive care and trans care in Colorado are protected.
