Citizens Turned Out for May Day, Lining the Streets for Democracy!
Hundreds of citizens lined College Avenue from Mulberry to Horsetooth Road in Fort Collins to show their solidarity in support of democracy.
[Fort Collins, CO] — On May Day, Thursday, May 1, hundreds of citizens peacefully demonstrated in support of democracy and working families. Organized by IndivisibleNOCO, the event was part of a nationwide May Day of Action of more than 1,000 grassroots protests across the country. The goals were to demand that the Trump administration upholds the rule of law, respects constitutional values, and serves the many, not the few.
Participants at the Fort Collins protest came out for many reasons. One participant emphasized the importance of having our voices heard. Another attended to stand up for the rights of friends and family and for our children. “This is a constitutional crisis. We must speak up,” another participant said, amid a sea of signs calling to “stand united” and “resist facism”.
As residents of this country, all have the capacity, responsibility, and right to stay informed and be heard by reaching out to Congressional representatives with concerns. This May Day, the voices of citizens were heard in support of democracy and the principles that unite us. Together, we can create meaningful change.
