Constituents Meet with Cardboard Congresswoman Boebert
IndivisibleNOCO and Congresswoman Lauren Boebert’s Constituents Seek Answers to Questions During the Congressional Recess (March 15-23)
Windsor and Loveland, CO – During the Congressional Recess, March 15 – 23, Indivisible chapters nationwide sought public meetings with their representatives. Residents of Colorado’s 4th Congressional District were unable to find a town hall meeting with Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, their representative. Constituents took action and brought their questions and stories to the community parks in Windsor and Loveland to seek answers and demand a public town hall meeting.
Over the two day event, 75 people came with questions, comments, and concerns for Congresswoman Boebert. IndivisibleNOCO members recorded input from constituents and will deliver their comments and questions to the Congresswoman. Questions for Boebert from constituents included:
How can you justify drastic cuts to Medicaid and food assistance to give a tax break to billionaires? Are the threats to cut Social Security and Medicare in the next budget real?
How can you allow adherence to a dictator in Russia to put down the US’s friend and ally, Ukraine?
How can Republicans claim to be patriots and then cut Veterans Administration services and fire veterans from federal jobs?
Constituents also pressed Congresswoman Boebert to hold in person town hall meetings in addition to the virtual town hall announced by her spokesperson after the actions at her office.
Virtual meetings limit the ability of residents to ask questions and share stories without being muted or silenced. The individuals who peacefully showed up at the Congresswoman’s offices shared emotional pleas requesting a face-to-face meeting. Their statements included:
“When will you actually have the courage to show up in front of us and defend these atrocious cuts you’re making?”
“We deserve to have a congressperson that works for us - not just Donald Trump and the conservative constituents - but for everyone who lives in your district.”
“We believe at IndivisibleNOCO that everybody has a voice and everybody should be heard,” said Amy Padilla, a board member for the group. “We feel like we’ve been put in a position where the only way we’re ever going to be heard is if we do this. Cardboard Lauren is the closest we can get to the real thing.”
