Why Running
"My youngest just turned one and still hasn’t quite figured out how to sleep through the night. I’ve spent many late nights awake, rocking him and scrolling through the news. In those quiet hours, I’ve watched the dismantling of our government, the loss of life from cuts to international aid, the genocide in Gaza, and the growing disregard for the future of our planet.
And through all of it, I’ve held this precious, sleeping child in my arms and thought about the world he’s inheriting. I realized I couldn’t just watch anymore. I didn’t believe Senator Hickenlooper was showing the strength or urgency needed to protect the children suffering now, or to safeguard the future for mine. I knew I had to do something.
I want my two kids, and all kids, to grow up in a country built on opportunity, stability, and compassion. A place where no one worries about whether our planet will remain livable, where political division isn’t a constant, where no one fears going broke to get healthcare, and where hard work is rewarded with dignity and security."
Policy Summary
Medicare for All: A profit‑driven healthcare system puts corporate interests between patients and their doctors, driving up costs and reducing care. Medicare for All would guarantee universal coverage, simplify the system, and restore the focus on patients and providers.
Sustainable Energy Policy: Climate change demands urgent action, and America should lead in developing clean, renewable energy that creates good jobs and strengthens national security. Any non‑carbon solution that cuts emissions and builds long‑term sustainability should be on the table.
A Fair Economy Today & Shared Prosperity in the AI Future: Workers have been excluded from the gains of modern technology and globalization, even as wages stagnate and jobs are outsourced or automated. A fair economy ensures people share in the prosperity they create and that AI benefits everyone, not just those at the top.
Real Immigration Reform: Immigration policy must reflect dignity, fairness, and due process—not raids, cages, or family separation. Real reform ends militarized enforcement, ensures humane treatment, and creates a clear path to citizenship for the millions who contribute to our communities.
Prosecuting War Criminals & Rejecting Support for Human Rights Violators: The U.S. should uphold justice by holding war criminals accountable regardless of rank or nationality. America must also refuse support for governments or groups that commit human rights abuses, strengthening global stability and moral leadership.
Restoring USAID for Sick and Hungry Children: Gutting USAID has caused preventable suffering, from children born HIV‑positive to families dying of hunger. Restoring and strengthening these programs saves lives, prevents global crises, and protects American security by addressing disease and famine at their source.
Sustainable Debt Policy: Responsible borrowing should invest in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and communities—not fund tax cuts for the wealthy. A sustainable debt policy ensures future generations inherit opportunity rather than economic instability.
