Manny Rutinel

Why Running

"In the wealthiest nation in the world, you should be able to get a good night's rest after working a hard day's work. You shouldn't have to lie awake at night thinking about whether you'll be able to put food on your family's table, a roof over your child's head, or have the resources to pay for a medical procedure. We need honest, accountable leadership that fights for working families and knows deep in their bones the struggles that hardworking families are facing.

As a State Representative, attorney, and former economist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, I’ve learned that making progress requires working with others and working hard to get things done. My job in Congress will be straightforward: use facts and evidence to fight for working families and deliver results that make your life better."

Policy Positions

  • Lower Costs: Lower costs for working and middle‑class families by expanding tax credits, cracking down on billionaire and corporate tax loopholes, stopping tariffs and cuts that raise prices, protecting food‑security programs, and fighting junk fees and predatory subscription practices so consumers see the real cost upfront.

  • Social Security & Medicare: Protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare by ensuring the wealthy pay their fair share, opposing any benefit cuts, and defending the promise that every worker can retire with dignity after a lifetime of contributions.

  • Healthcare: Lower healthcare and prescription drug costs by expanding Medicare’s power to negotiate prices, capping insulin at $35, protecting patients from surprise medical bills, and defending Americans’ freedom to make personal decisions about their own bodies and families.

  • Affordable Housing: Make housing affordable by treating it as a basic necessity, not a luxury, and ensuring that anyone working full‑time can afford food and rent in their own community.

  • Veterans & Military Families: Expand support for veterans by broadening cancer treatment eligibility, strengthening community‑based suicide‑prevention and mental‑health programs, and investing in peer support so veterans and their families receive the care and dignity they deserve.

  • Labor Rights: Strengthen the middle class by raising wages, expanding vocational training, supporting unions, and ensuring working parents have access to paid leave, sick days, and affordable child care so families can thrive.

  • Corruption & Government Reform: Crack down on corruption by ending billionaire tax cheating, banning congressional stock trading, closing lobbyist loopholes, reversing Citizens United, reducing dark‑money influence, and rejecting corporate PAC money so government is accountable to the people - not special interests.
