Reason for Running
"It remains the honor of a lifetime to serve our community as the State Representative from House District 53. I am running for reelection because I believe that our best days here in Colorado are still ahead of us. Together, we can build a future full of hope, equity, and opportunity for each and every Coloradan."
Policy Positions
Affordable Housing: Expand affordable housing by reducing regulatory barriers and allowing schools, transit agencies, housing authorities, and nonprofits to build on land they already own. Continue removing obstacles to condominium, townhome, and multifamily construction while protecting mobile home communities, supporting resident ownership, and ensuring access to safe drinking water.
Gun Violence Prevention: Strengthen firearm safety laws by regulating firearm dealers, banning ghost guns, establishing waiting periods, requiring safe storage, and keeping firearms away from domestic violence offenders and individuals legally prohibited from possessing them. Continue supporting Extreme Risk Protection Orders, lost-or-stolen firearm reporting, stronger local prevention laws, and responsible regulation of semiautomatic firearms and rapid-fire devices.
Abortion and Reproductive Health Care: Defend reproductive freedom and ensure that personal health care decisions remain between patients and their providers. Protect Colorado’s constitutional right to abortion and preserve access to safe, legal reproductive health care.
Public Education: Increase investment in public education by strengthening per-pupil funding, protecting early childhood programs, and sustaining access to all-day kindergarten and universal preschool. Expand higher education opportunities by removing unnecessary enrollment barriers and creating more pathways into high-demand professions.
Older Adults: Lower prescription drug costs, expand home-based medical care, and improve access to affordable housing, nutritious food, and reliable transportation for older adults. Protect retirees from predatory financial practices while supporting LGBTQ+ affirming services and programs that reduce isolation and loneliness.
Elections: Protect voters and election workers by preventing firearm intimidation at polling locations and strengthening safeguards against doxxing and harassment. Secure voting systems by enforcing strict access controls, preventing equipment tampering, and barring individuals convicted of serious election-related or anti-government offenses from administering elections.
Climate Change: Accelerate Colorado’s transition to clean energy by modernizing the electric grid, expanding transmission capacity, and integrating more renewable power while maintaining reliable and affordable service. Strengthen environmental oversight, conserve water through greater reuse in oil and gas operations, expand access to public lands, and support workers and communities affected by the transition from carbon-based energy.
Health Care: Work toward affordable, comprehensive health care that includes primary, hospital, prescription, reproductive, behavioral, dental, and specialty services for every Coloradan. Reduce unnecessary hospital fees, expand culturally competent care, protect health care workers from harassment, and evaluate reforms that could lower costs, expand access, and reduce administrative waste.
Workforce and Economic Opportunity: Create pathways to good-paying, safe jobs by supporting living wages, collective bargaining rights, workplace protections, and the ability of workers to organize. Expand vocational education, apprenticeships, job training, and retraining programs that connect Coloradans with long-term economic opportunities.
Civil Rights: Strengthen protections against discrimination while defending the rights, safety, dignity, and health care access of LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, immigrants, and refugees. Promote inclusive education, equal pay, fair employment opportunities, diversion programs for lower-level nonviolent offenses, and criminal justice reforms that address racial disparities, mental health needs, and addiction.
Transportation: Invest in safe, reliable transportation systems that improve affordability, economic opportunity, and quality of life in urban and rural communities. Advance passenger rail, strengthen roadway and roundabout safety, expand biking and e-bike options, incorporate trails into infrastructure planning, and build more affordable housing near public transit.
