Amendment 86: Congressional Redistricting

This amendment would ban gerrymandering in Colorado. Which sounds good, except it would prevent Colorado from responding if other states continue forcing through district maps that favor the right.
Most of us are against gerrymandering. But, this amendment is designed to hamstring the will of the people and prevent Colorado from reacting to gerrymandering in other states. Despite California’s voter-approved re-districting, Republicans have carved out a 10 seat advantage in the house by forcing through their district maps.
The Colorado Times Recorder has reported that this initiative is supported by Advance Colorado, a right-wing “dark money” group that sponsors a large number of conservative ballot initiatives in Colorado. They would like to remove Colorado from the board.
Until all states ban gerrymandering, we need to be able to react and respond to redistricting by the right.
