Amendment 83: Constitutional Right to Hunt & Fish

This initiative creates a state constitutional right to fish and hunt. It also, constitutionally, makes hunting and fishing the preferred means of managing fish and wildlife populations. This measure seems to be a reaction to previous ballot initiatives (that failed to pass) to restrict hunting.
The right to hunt and fish does not belong on a list of fundamental rights. This amendment would also severely limit Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s ability to implement science-based conservation and would take conservation out of the hands of professional scientists and wildlife experts.
It could also allow for the return of cruel trapping methods that were banned in 1996.
