Colorado Democrats Celebrate a Landmark Primary Night
Colorado’s Democratic primary has officially concluded, and voters across the state delivered a powerful message about the leadership they want guiding Colorado forward. From the Governor’s race to the U.S. Senate to county-level contests, Democrats chose candidates who reflect a deep commitment to democracy, justice, and community-centered governance. Today, we congratulate every nominee who earned the trust of Colorado voters.
In the Governor’s race, Phil Weiser won the Democratic nomination, marking a decisive moment in Colorado politics. His record of defending civil rights, protecting consumers, and standing up for vulnerable communities resonated strongly with voters. We congratulate him on a commanding victory and look forward to the energy he will bring into the general election.
Colorado Democrats also made a clear choice in the U.S. Senate primary. While we were proud to support Julie Gonzales and the bold, grassroots campaign she ran, we congratulate John Hickenlooper on winning the Democratic nomination. Julie’s campaign inspired thousands of voters and elevated progressive priorities statewide, and we will now unite behind Senator Hickenlooper to ensure Colorado continues to have strong representation in the Senate.
At the statewide level, we celebrate two additional victories that reflect Colorado’s commitment to protecting democracy. Amanda Gonzalez won the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State, bringing a fresh, community-driven perspective to one of Colorado’s most important offices. Jena Griswold secured the nomination for Attorney General, continuing her work to safeguard voting rights and hold powerful interests accountable. Both victories underscore Colorado’s dedication to fair elections and equal justice.
In Congressional District 8, Manny Rutinel won a hard-fought primary against a less progressive Democrat, signaling strong momentum for youthful, energetic and progressive leadership in one of Colorado’s most competitive districts. We also congratulate Joe Neguse and Eileen Laubacher, who advanced in uncontested races and will continue their work on behalf of Colorado families.
Closer to home, we extend our congratulations to Shane Atkinson for winning the Democratic nomination for Larimer County Commissioner. Shane’s campaign brought moral clarity, compassion, and a deep commitment to community well-being. His victory reflects the growing desire for county-level leadership that listens, collaborates, and delivers. We also congratulate the other Democratic candidates for Larimer County offices and look forward to their leadership after the November election.
Across Colorado, Democratic candidates stepped forward with integrity, resilience, and a shared vision for a better future. We honor every person who ran, every volunteer who showed up, and every voter who made their voice heard. Now, as we turn toward November, IndivisibleNOCO is committed to supporting every Democratic nominee, mobilizing voters, and building the broad, inclusive coalition needed to win.
Colorado is ready for the next chapter — and together, we will write it.
